The UEFA Champions League is considered one of the most prestigious football tournaments worldwide. This is because the Champions League, as it is fondly called, is organized as an annual football club competition by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The league matches are among the most-watched all over Europe and even in large parts of the Asian region where football is a popular sport.

The Champions League is currently in its 65th season. As a common practice, all of the competing teams who qualified to participate in the current season have been doing their assignments to upgrade their team’s performance and hopefully bag the Champions League crown for this season. This is because getting this year’s championship crown is set to open more doors of opportunity for the victor to enjoy. But as of the present, five teams are viewed by experts as the top title contenders.

Top Five Title Contenders

Bayern Munich

The German squad that makes up the famous football club Bayern Munich is currently considered as the top contender for the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League. Based on the latest figures and predictions, this Champions League vying team has a long list of reasons to win the crown this season.

First, Bayer Munich is a veteran team that has been competing in the Champions League. Thus, the team’s management knows the ins and outs of the league. Also, its current coaching staff has geared up to grab the much-coveted crown from the reigning champions. The gearing up involved some player acquisitions, which cost Bayer Munich millions.

Second, it was revealed that this Champions League star team would be fielding a newly-organized 28-man squad, which is made up of 24 players coming up from the Bayer Munich professional squad and four coming from Bayern Munich II squad. These four include the likes of Sarpreet Singh, Oliver Batista Meier, Daniels Ontužāns, and Joshua Zirkzee.  For this season, Niko Kovac will coach the team and will be headed by Manuel Neuer as their first-choice goalkeeper.

Real Madrid

After its disappointing exit from the previous season’s tournament when they lost to Ajax, Real Madrid comes in as a strong contender for the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League crown. To accomplish this goal, Real Madrid has prepared well for the upcoming season. First, it made sure to deal with the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last summer. The Champions League mainstay did this by collecting major players like the famed striker Luka Jovic in a deal, which involves a fee amounting to 62 million pounds. Also, Real Madrid captured the star player from Chelsea named Eden Hazard. To top it all, the legendary Zinedine Zidane will be stirring the Spanish giants as team manager.

For the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League season, Real Madrid fans can expect some to the team’s priced player to step inside the pitch. The defensive side of this Champions League heavyweight will most likely be placed in the hands of Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, and Marcelo. To prevent the opposing teams from scoring, Real Madrid will field either Alphonse Areola or Thibaut Courtois as the goalkeeper. To mount the offense, Real Madrid will utilize forwards like the newly-acquired Eden Hazard, Karim Benzema, Lucas Vazquez, and Luka Jovic.

Barcelona

After being kicked out from the league by Roma last season, the Messi-led Barcelona still retains its reputation as a formidable team to compete for the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League crown. To regain its former glory in the league, Barcelona acquired a few players to boost its squad’s performance. First, it acquired Frenkie de Jong out of a deal, which involved the payment of 75 million pounds. Also, Ernesto Valverde’s team is believed to sign Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt to strengthen the Spanish powerhouse’s lineup. With these additional players, it is expected that Barcelona to serve as a force to reckon with this Champions League season.

For this season, Barcelona is expected to field Marc- Andre ter Stegen as their goalkeeper who will prevent the opponents from scoring. Stegen will most likely be assisted by Barcelona’s defensive lineup spearheaded by Gerard Pique, Nelson Semedo, and Clement Lenglet. To handle the offense, Barcelona will be tapping the likes of Lionel Messi (if the team gets lucky, and he would be able to play), Luis Suarez, and Carles Perez. Midfielders like the newly acquired Frenkie de Jong, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, and Arthur will also be at the team’s disposal to complete the team’s current Champion’s League lineup.

Liverpool

Liverpool, being the previous season’s victor, remains as a team to beat in the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League. According to football experts, this Champions League heavyweight will most likely collect a lot of victories and probably prolong its grip on the championship crown given that the team remains under the reign of Jurgen Klopp.

For this season, the Liverpool squad will be fielding formidable players starting with its defensive lineup made up of Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lewis, Andy Robertson, and Joe Gomez. To achieve more victories, this Champions League mainstay will be tapping the best midfielders in their squad and position the likes of Fabinho, James Milner, and Roberto Firmino. To complete the winning lineup, Klopp is expected to use some of the team’s reliable forwards which include Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, and Mohamed Salah.

Manchester City

Although taunted for its inability to win the most coveted Champions League trophy for a long time, Manchester City never ceases to intensify its campaign in its hope to win the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League crown. For the current season, the famous Josep Guardiola will still coach Manchester City. This Champions League championship contender is expected to rely on some of its qualified forwards particularly, the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Ian Poveda, and Raheem Sterling.

The team’s defensive lineup is expected to be filled by Guardiola with Manchester City’s tough defenders like Kyle Walker, Angelino, Benjamin Mendy, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Kyle Walker. Manchester City fans can also expect the team’s formidable goalkeepers like Ederson and Claudio Bravo to defend the goal with all their might.
