2006 Winter Olympic Recaps:
Memorable moments:
· No gold for Lindsey Jacobellis in the Snow Board Cross race after her "backside method grab" late in the race results in a fall. But she held on for silver! (story)
· Chicago native, Shani Davis, makes history taking gold for the U.S. in the speedskating 1000 meters (story).
· In cross country, the always premier Italian 4x10km relay team notched an easy gold medal win in front of a rowdy home crowd (story).
· Sasha Cohen earns a silver medal after recovering from two early falls to finish strong, but her slips under pressure are now her signature move (story).
· Bode Miller: Before the games, the U.S. media showered the front pages with cover stories about Bode's greatness. During the games, Bode was "honest" about his priorities-- partying. Sounds like fun for 205 1/2 weeks of every 4 years. But maybe in 10 years when Bode can't ski fast anymore he will realize that buckling down for 2 1/2 weeks at the Olympics might have been a better idea (story).
· Apollo Anton Ono: Definitely the star of the games from the U.S. perspective. He won 5 medals. And, Ono saved the best for last. On the last day of short track speed skating, Ono won gold in the 500 meters and passing near the final lap to help the U.S. take bronze in the relay (story).
