>> NBA.com NBA Draft 2008
Draft day: June 26, 2008
Projected Draft Order (based on team records) and
Projected Top Picks ("Mock Draft") (update 6/24):
· 1. Chicago Bulls: Derrick Rose (PG- Memphis)
· 2. Miami Heat: Michael Beasley (PF- Kansas State)-- Miami could trade down a notch for a true guard such as O.J. Mayo or Jerryd Bayless. Story.
· 3. Minnesota T-Wolves: Brook Lopez (C- Stanford)
· 4. Seattle Sonics: O.J. Mayo (G- USC)
· 5. Memphis Grizzlies: Kevin Love (PF- UCLA)
· 6. New York Knicks: Joe Alexander (SF- W.Virg.)
· 7. L.A. Clippers: Eric Gordon (SG- Indiana)
· 8. Milwaukee Bucks: Danilo Gallinari (SF- Italy
· 9. Charlotte Hornets: DeAndre Jordan (C- Texas A&M)
· 10. New Jersey Nets: Roy Hibbert (C- Georgetown)
· 11. Indiana Pacers: Mario Chalmers (PG- Kansas)
· 12. Sacramento Kings: Jerryd Bayless (G- Arizona)
Analysis:
· Teams looking to go big will be looking hard at Anthony Randolph (6-11, LSU), Alexis Ajinca (7-1, France), and Donte Green (6-11, Syracuse). We think DeAndre Jordan (7-0, Texas A&M) goes ahead of these 3. Also in the mix is Brook Lopez' brother Robin Lopez (7-0, Stanford), JaVale McGee (7-0, Nevada), Marreese Speights (6-10, Florida), and Kosta Koufos (7-0, Ohio State). And why not say Darrell Arthur? The 6-9 PF from Kansas has proved he can bang in the paint. We think Roy Hibbert is a better pick than a lot of these guys.
· D.J. Augustin is getting more attention as the draft approaches. But is the 5-11, 175 lb Texas PG big enough to be picked any higher than 10th? UCLA's 6-3 PG Russell Westbrook is likely to go higher based on his athletic ability and bigger frame.
· Nicholas Batum, once way up on the charts, slipped way down based on concerns about his heart condition. Where will the 6-8 swingman from France end up? For that matter, who is he? Check out these videos: here and here (translation in text). The Blazers say he is a 3 (SF), period. And they say he needs to get a little tougher to compete in the NBA. But he has the skills and the size.
· Bulls get the number 1 pick. Hmmm (didn't get KG last offseason, Boston got him for Big Al; didn't get Gasol, who Lakers got for a bag of chips; and now? David Stern bounces the ball their way?).
· Pat Riley worked it to get the #1 pick... sitting players, starting D-Leaguers, racking up L's... but the Bulls beat him too it. Hope all that preliminary scouting still works out.
· Is Memphis Junior, Forward Chris Douglas-Roberts ("CDR") being overlooked? Profile and stats. Brandon Rush can be thrown in this category. Both have solid, all-around skills and ability-- combined in an NBA-designed frame.
