Top 20 NBA Forwards
Position Summary FORWARDS The forward position isn't what it used to be (unless you count F/C's like Tim Duncan, Jermaine O'Neal, Chris Bosh, etc). After the top 6 or 7, things get a little risky and the fantasy value drops off quite a bit.
1. LeBron James CLE
The safest, best choice.
2. Dirk Nowitzki DAL
Going to try for back-to-back MVP's like his buddy Nash?
3. Shawn Marion PHO
We believe Marion gets virtually no credit for his role in the Suns success. By the numbers, he has consistently been the best player on the team.
4. Kevin Garnett BOS
5 straight seasons over 50 fantasy points per game and 8 straight over 48. And it may not yet be time to bet against the trend.
5. Carmelo Anthony DEN
It should be a great year for the Nuggets and even though the team is so deep and talented, if nothing else 'Melo is a solid bet for consistent fantasy points.
6. Tracy McGrady: HOU
We hope he's not ready to just fade away yet. When's the MVP season Tracy? Your not over yet are you?
7. Josh Smith: ATL
Smith is turning into the next Shawn Marion-- a fantasy shark in multiple categories.
8. Gerald Wallace: CHA
When healthy he's not only the best Wallace in the game, he's among the best fantasy players-- period.
9. Ron Artest SAC
Too much upside potential to ignore.
10. Rashard Lewis ORL
Yet to have a breakout season. The change of scenery to Orlando is the opportunity for him. We doubt he has it in him,
but a decent bet for stable fantasy value.
11. Josh Howard DAL
The Mavs will likely show more and more confidence in him.
12. Caron Butler WAS
Last year, his fantasy value was a good as Jamison's has ever been in his career. Betting on Butler could pay off this year.
13. Paul Pierce BOS
Pierce could turn out to be excellent value in some fantasy leagues this year. But he's not such a safe bet like he used to be.
14. Drew Gooden CLE Has been frustrating to own throughout his career. But Ilgauskas is aging, and the Cavs need Gooden on a nightly basis now.
15. Corey Maggette LAC
It's not a no brainer like it might seem to be. But, Maggette is the odds on favorite to be the primary beneficiary of Brand being out.
16. Andre Iguodala PHI
Yes, he's mega-talented. But is he capable of putting up the fantasy numbers as the focal point of defenses? Fortunately he should hold his value because scoring is just one aspect of Iggy's well-rounded fantasy game.
17. Luol Deng CHI
Seems to have emerged as the star for the Bulls but picking Deng does come with some risk.
18. Rasheed Wallace DET
The Pistons need a big year from 'Sheed.
19. Lamar Odom LAL
He's always consistent for fantasy value. But there's two risks: injuries and, now, age (Odom's entering his 9th season).
20. Mike Dunleavy IND
The Pacers might go out of their way to make him successful there.
INJURED
Elton Brand LAC A model of consistency when healthy.
Higher Risk
Andrei Kirilenko UTA: So much upside. Watch carefully.
Antawn Jamison WAS: No longer a top-tier pick, but not too risky either.
Richard Jefferson NJ: Yet to deliver a big season. Lots of potential-- wasted. Especially last year.
Zach Randolph NYC: Into Isaih's black hole.
David West NO: Could be (should be?) primed for big season.
Ricky Davis MIN: If Minnesota wants to win this season then Davis is the biggest beneficiary of Garnett leaving. We know Al Jefferson will get his fantasy points; Ricky Davis is the guy that can also rack 'em up if given the green light.
David Lee NYK: Why did Isiah think he needed Zach Randolph?
Udonis Haslem MIA: He was supposed to be learning from Shaq and then turning into a successful NBA PF. What happened?
Rudy Gay MEM: Time to see what he's made of this season.
Tayshaun Prince DET: Expendable by Detroit. The Pistons should move him while they can. Plenty of young talent to fill the void.
